I’m not a big fan of Elvis Presley but a line from one of his songs has stuck in my mind — “A little less conversation, a little more action, please.” When it comes to improving learning outcomes in India, we have no time to waste. No time for conference speakers to drone on, no time for research that only produces another report on poor learning levels in the country, and no time to complain about how accountability systems and processes are broken.

“The most challenging part of the role was to have clarity of thought around our vision”

Ambitious but practical, this is among some of the advice Kruti Bharucha had for herself when she began her entrepreneurial journey with Peepul.

“There was a spirit in me that wanted to reduce the inequality I saw in India and thought that building equitable schools …was one way to solve that problem”

Look beyond private schools for good education. There is much potential in the existing government schools to be transformed into centres for excellent learning.

India has made great progress in recent years towards its goals for primary education for all. However, in government schools, the quality of education has been on a downward spiral.

Look beyond private schools for good education. There is much potential in the existing government schools to be transformed into centres for excellent learning.

With over 19 years’ experience in various leadership and management roles in education, management consulting and advisory, Kruti Bharucha is now the CEO of Peepul.

Now in its third year, the Economic Times Women Ahead listing , based on an extensive study carried out by consulting firm SpencerStuart, presents much-needed role models from India Inc for India Inc.

Education sets an individual free. It is heartening to see private establishments like Peepul Foundation working together with Delhi’s government schools to bring world-class education to their students. In an interview with Qrius, Ms Kruti Bharucha, the CEO of Peepul, talks about the foundation and its goals.

Ark started working with the South Delhi Municipal Corporation in 2015 with the aim to turn around the corporation’s primary school in Lajpat Nagar III area of Delhi, which was failing due to low enrollment. As the operators of the first ever partnership school with the government in Delhi.

Teaching the teachers to teach better is the first-of-its-kind initiative by non-government organisation Peepul, which has collaborated with the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to pilot a teacher training programme that works at improving the “capacity” of government teachers.
