LiftEd

What’s our Intiative?

LiftEd is a five-year, outcome-based education programme aligned with the Government of India’s NIPUN Bharat Mission, which aims to ensure foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) for all children aged 4–10 by 2026–27.

Financed through a Development Impact Bond (DIB), LiftEd focuses on strengthening the use of assessments to drive classroom instruction and improve in-school learning outcomes. As an on-ground implementing partner, Peepul works with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) across 488 public schools, supporting academic, governance, and technology reforms.

At its core, the programme builds the capacity of teachers, school leaders, and government officials to interpret and act on assessment data, thereby enabling targeted, need-based teaching to raise student achievement.

Key Interventions

Governance Reforms

LiftEd is building a strong system-wide understanding within MCD on the role of student assessments by:

  • Co-creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the design, delivery, and analysis of assessments.
  • Supporting the establishment of an Assessment Cell within MCD to lead high-quality assessments for Grades 1–5.
  • Embedding sustainable practices by drawing on national and international best practices in student assessment.

Academic Reforms

Teachers are supported through Peepul’s High Engagement Toolkit, enabling them to:

  • Use formative assessments to guide lesson planning.
  • Apply data-based decision-making in classroom instruction.
  • Strengthen instructional practices through targeted training in assessment frameworks and the use of technology.

Technology Reforms

The programme leverages open-source technology to design a customised Learning Management System (LMS) for MCD, enabling:

  • Real-time collection of assessment data from classrooms.
  • Efficient processing and trend analysis to identify learning gaps.
  • Intuitive dashboards for teachers and administrators to visualise progress and plan targeted interventions.

Enablers

To make change sustainable, LiftEd strengthens stakeholder engagement, with a focus on parents and communities. By helping families understand the role of school-based assessments, the programme ensures that support for student learning extends beyond the classroom.
